Samuel Amponsah

Samuel Amponsah is Professor of World Economy and Statistics at the Institute for International Strategy, Tokyo International University Foundation. He is also a visiting Professor at the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Saitama University. His research and teaching interests are in the areas of Health Economics, Labor Economics, Development Economics, Applied Econometrics and Statistics. In the summer of 2009, he was a visiting lecturer at the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Tokyo, Japan. Prior to joining the Institute of International Strategy, Samuel was a visiting scholar at the Institute of Foreign Studies and the Institute of International Exchange, which are both in TIU.

Samuel has been a Monbusho Scholar (2007-2010) and, was conferred with the fellowship of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Postdoctoral Fellowship for Foreign Researchers (2014-2015). He holds master’s and PhD in Economics from Tokyo International University, Kawagoe, Japan. His current research focuses on child labour and household welfare in the cocoa producing community in Ghana and Ivory Coast. He has served as President-elect and President (2017-2020) of the African Finance and Economics Association (AFEA), Associate Editor of the Journal of African Development (from 2016 to pesent), Editorial Board Member of Decision (from 2022 to present) and co-Chair of the AFEA African Conferences Organizing Committee.
