Maswana Jean-Claude

Professor Maswana Jean-Claude is a distinguished economist and faculty member at Ritsumeikan University’s Graduate School of Economics in Japan, where he is recognized for his influential research on economic growth, finance and international trade, with a special focus on the growth-effects of China-Africa trade interactions as well as empirical assessment of financial development of China. He holds a Ph.D. from Nagoya University and brings a wealth of international expertise to his roles as a former President of the African Finance and Economic Association (AFEA) and Allied Board Member of the Allied Social Sciences Association (ASSA) under the American Economic Association (AEA). Additionally, he serves on the Japan Association for African Studies (JSAS) board and chairs the Congo Economic Circle (CEC).

Professor Maswana has lectured at top-tier institutions, including the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, and Tsukuba University, and has previously been a Macroeconomist Research Fellow with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). With all of these, Professor Maswana’s work, including consultancy services to governments in developing countries, has earned him a respected voice in economic policy and international development circles.
