Evelyn (Wamboye) Nyadwera

Evelyn (Wamboye) Nyadwera is Professor of Economics at Pennsylvania State University DuBois and a non-Resident Fellow at the Center for Global Development, Washington, DC. Her research interests broadly include, international economics; technological change; and international development; and has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. Among others, her publications have appeared in The World Economy, International Labor Review, Journal of Economic Issues, Development, Comparative Economic Studies, Gender Technology and Development, Journal of African Development and Feminist Economics. She has coedited three books: Foreign Capital Flows and Economic Development in Africa (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017), The Service Sector and Economic Development in Africa (Routledge, 2019), and The Palgrave Handbook of Africa’s Economic Sectors (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022);and published two Elements with Cambridge University Press. Evelyn has peer-reviewed for a number of journals, she is the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of African Development (JAD), past co-editor of Gender,Development and Technology (GTD), and was recently (2023, 2018) featured in BBC World Service Radio interviews on Women and Land Rights, and the services sector in Africa, respectively. Previously, Evelyn served as a United Nations’ Expert on Development Aid in Least Developed Countries.

Evelyn has presented her research findings at international conferences, workshops and seminars in USA, Europe, Asia and Africa. Notably, she has been invited to present her works at the Africa Development Bank Group (AfDB)’s Research Seminar Series in Abidjan, CoteD’Ivoire; the Department of Economics, University of Nairobi, Kenya; and the DANIDAFellowship Center in Arusha, Tanzania. She has featured as a panelist on plenary sessions at theAfrican Finance and Economic Association (AFEA, 2024) and International Association for Feminist Economics (IAFFE, 2023) conferences

Evelyn received her Ph.D. in Economics from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and M.A. in Economics from Western Illinois University both in the United States, and a B.A. in Economics and Philosophy from University of Nairobi in Kenya. She is a member of American Economic Association, African Finance and Economic Association, and International Association for Feminist Economics. Evelyn has contributed to the Rotary International fundraising initiatives that support education related programs in the U.S. and development projects in developing countries. In her free time she enjoys partaking in charity events, gardening, photography, travelling, biking, playing tennis and chess.
